4/22 Update

Carissa is still making good progress. It seems really slow until you, really I, realize that she only turned 5 days old this evening. Pamela and I this evening saw the doctor that was on duty in the NICU last Friday night when Carissa was born. It is really great when you see people like this who are aware of what condition Carissa is in versus what condition she could have been in now and to see their reactions.

They are still weaning Carissa off the ventilator so please pray that that will continue to go well, that it will be able to be removed, and that she reacts fine and is able to breathe on her own with no setbacks. She is still chewing up her platelets somehow (chewing up or chewing through are the phrases used by Dr. Adams to describe the disappearing platelets) but her rbc's (red blood cells) seem to be holding pretty strong. She has not had additional rbc's after the initial transfusion/exchange on Saturday. They ruled out more causes today including thrombotic thrombocytopedia purpura and the parvo virus. Hanging out with doctors has definitely increased my syllables and acronyms per sentence. I am almost ready for marketing!

They want to try to start feeding Carissa soon so that is another step we hope to be rejoicing with y'all soon. I look forward to sending a picture soon with just Carissa's face as she calmly breathes in the air on her own after she has feasted at Mom's diner.

Please keep thanking God for the great progress and please keep praying she will continue down this progressively better path.

Yours and His,
Terry

ps Niece Rachel who graduated from some school that won a football national championship the middle of this decade showed up with some nice decorations for Carissa's temporary home tonight. I look forward to all the comments about Carissa having USC, LSU, Ohio State, or Florida stuff now.
