Carissa has had her platelet transfusion and is in the process of slowly getting a blood exchange. They are slowly taking out 5 cc's of anemic blood and transfusing in 5 cc's of new blood at a time. This will keep her from building up more fluid and putting more pressure on her heart. We are blessed that we have almost a 2 day start on some of the testing of what might be ailing Carissa because of the blood that was obtained through the cord Thursday morning. Our littlest blessing is still not showing her cards on what the root cause is but every hour brings more hope. She is still very sick and needs our prayers just as much as ever so please keep lifting her up to The Almighty God, the Giver of every perfect gift. The fact that she has been here 5 1/2hours is an incredible blessing and a testimony of the power of prayer.
Pamela is still doing well (The "she's" in this paragraph all belong to Pamela). She has moved from a recovery room to a labor and delivery room from which I am writing this. Her blood pressure was up but has now dropped into a more suitable range, still kind of high for her but probably lower than mine is regularly. She is on some oxygen, probably more a result of being on some pain killers than anything else. We have hope of her moving to a regular room sometime on Saturday.
I do not want to minimize our appreciation for the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff of both St. Luke's and Texas Children's and our amazement at their dedication, intelligence, and kindness. Their willingness to work smart, long, and hard and bring in opinions of experts locally, nationally, and internationally is not only appreciated but once a root cause is found for Carissa will be shared back and help anyone who may find themselves with a baby in a similar position.
You know, God sometimes just gives you little things in the midst of the big things that you don't want to put too much into, but that just makes you feel pretty good and get a little chuckle out of. As I went back to the NICU a little while ago Dr. Williams took the time to let me know how they are set up. The NICU is divided into five teams that are designated by colors. Our precious little Carissa Faith is on...you guessed it...the Orange team. I am now pretty sure I read (or imagined) the hand signal correctly the other day.
We love you all and are so thankful for your prayers...and we need them as much now as ever.
Terry, Pamela, Colton, Luke, and Carissa (And yes, BroRan and John Luke, I will be obtaining shufftpclc@gmail.com as our newest email address)
