4/16 Supplemental Update

Well, there seems to be agreement among the smock or scrub wearing of our species that performing the blood sampling and transfusion was the right way to go. We do know that our daughter was anemic and not just showing some signs of anemia. They do know that for some reason her red blood cells seem to be getting destroyed before they are supposed to be. There is even a chance that the amniotic fluid was so diluted last week when we came in that some of the things tested for did not show up so those are being tested for again. We still do not have a true diagnosis of what is causing some or all of her symptons but there is renewed hope of being more likely to find a diagnosis before she is born. The current plan is to go in again next Tuesday and do another transfusion. They could not get her blood count as high as they wanted to today because the needle was knocked out prematurely (I hear now it was actually from a contraction and not directly by our daughter) so she will need to have another transfusion sooner than they had hoped. It was found that her platelet count was very low as well. Pray that knowledge gained today will lead to a diagnosis that is treatable.

The contractions did not really subside the way it was hoped after the procedure so they put Pamela on magnesium sulfate this afternoon. Probably the worst thing about this was how everyone has been telling us about the horrors of the mag since we got here last Wednesday night. Pamela has been doing ok with it but she has been a trooper through everything that has happened.

Pamela's blood count has gone down since we have been here and is starting to be a larger concern. Unless she improves pretty quickly they will likely need to start treating her for anemia soon. She has started having somewhat regular breathing treatments to help her with her shortness of breath. Of course when she is feeling well enough to try to skip or slightly postpone one the symptoms return faster.

There are several prayer needs scattered throughout this update. We certainly have the feeling of being in some sort of healthcare waltz where you alternate taking steps forward and backward. Many of you have no doubt experienced that frustration on your own or with someone you've been close to.

A very sincere thank you to each of you who have been praying for us. Please keep interceding on our behalf. Please do remember to thank God for everything he has done for us these last 9 days. As challenging as our position is, we are very thankful to be here.

Yours and His
Terry and Pamela
